Ever since leaving Iran, I have always been thinking about documenting, in as much detail as possible, what I witnessed in the jails of the Islamic Republic of Iran. I wanted to do this as a tribute to those brave and courageous political prisoners who withstood their ordeal, never bowing the heads. Many of them are no longer amongst us.
I started working seriously on these memoirs in 2001. It has taken me several years to develop and accurate account of what happened in the prisons of the Islamic Republic during my incarceration. It is important for me to note that I have avoided discussing my own political activities before my arrest and after my release, as I wanted this book to be solely on the events that took place in those prisons. This book is really the memoirs of my years in prison rather than an autobiography. I have thus stayed away, purposely, on what happened to us after our release from the Iranian jails. I have left out an account of our ordeal in the Turkish prison, the physical and mental abuse we endured there, and the daily threat of extradition to Iran to face certain execution.
