Etienne, a military reporter-photographer, is going through a difficult and dramatic period of his life. During one of his trips to the war-torn country, he finds himself in captivity. When Etienne is finally released, he faces a problem - how to return to normal life. The man comes to the village where he spent his childhood, to the tired of incessant anticipation of his mother, who raised him without a father. His faithful friend Enzo and Joffranca's childhood friend are ready to support Etienne morally. The three friends unite around the problems of the present and the mysteries of the past because of the urgency of the important question: what is the share of the hostages in each of us?
The story that Jeanne Benamer tells in the book "Hostages of the Soul", awarded the 2016 Jacques-Buchanan Literary Prize, is deeply impressive. The novel outlines the path to true freedom - one that can be found only by grasping the secret within himself.
