SAVAK (abbreviation for the State Security and Intelligence Organization) was the secret police, internal security, and intelligence service of Iran during the Pahlavi dynasty. It was established by Mohammad Reza Shah with the assistance of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Mossad in 1957 until Prime Minister Shapour Bakhtiar ordered its dissolution during the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
