Dr. Jakob Fabian, a German studies scholar and copywriter, drifts through Berlin during the "Golden Twenties." He throws himself into erotic adventures, drinks with journalists, and tries to assert his integrity and his ideals in the labyrinth of the metropolis. But the city spirals like a fever dream; the young democracy of the Weimar Republic is increasingly shaken to its foundations.
