Walter Benjamin is one of the most influential philosophers of art in the 20th century. He, who considered himself a revolutionary Marxist, is one of the most famous contemporary thinkers who, according to his expertise and field of interest, is exactly in the middle of the battle between art and ideology. In his works, he presents various expressions and concepts about the relationship between art and ideology. He occasionally supports independent art and even art for art's sake against the dangers of ideology for art, and raises his aesthetic concerns against the dominance of ideological systems; on the other hand, against the degeneration of bourgeois art in the capitalist system, he despises non-committal art, and by emphasizing revolutionary ideals and goals, he implicitly defends a kind of ideological commitment of art. The present book aims to explain how Benjamin can be regarded as both a neo-Kantian aesthetician committed to the essence and nature of art and a revolutionary Marxist and at the same time a savior-believing Jew who has a strong commitment to art and ideas without falling into the abyss of contradictions. He knows the importance.
