In our society, becoming a faculty member is the first career path that Ph.D. graduates are expected to take, and maybe even forced to, as they answer the curious mind of society why they haven't married, why they haven't had children, why they haven't had a second child, etc. They should also ask why they are not members of the faculty yet.
