Adonis is one of the most prominent Arab poets today and undoubtedly the most eloquent and educated theoretician of Arabic poetry. From the beginning of his career as a poet until today, his face can be described as follows: a meticulous and obsessive teacher who is constantly busy revising, engraving, and modifying his poems. He usually makes them shorter and more compact and always underlines the direct expressions and direct social-political criticisms. What attracts attention to Adonis' theoretical articles and writings is their logical coherence and seriousness. His critical theoretical stances, especially in the field of poetry and art, have been generally consistent over the past three decades. The genealogy of Adonis's poetry reaches two worlds far from each other. On the one hand, the heritage of ancient Arabic poetry and the works of Sufis such as Nefri, and on the other hand, the greats of Western modernity such as Hölderlin, Rilke, and Michaud. In Adonis's writings, the deep influence of modern French poetry and criticism can be clearly seen. His prose vision is full of emotion and at the same time clear and compact, and he has a good ability to address biting and provocative phrases and, in general, polemics.
