Social capital is a new, complex and important concept that is currently considered as one of the most important indicators of growth and development, along with other important concepts in the social system of any society. A necessary condition for the progress of society is comprehensive development, the establishment of warm relations, the expansion of social cohesion, the spread of social participation and the multifaceted trust of social capital. The present collection contains articles from the conference "Social Capital and Development in Iran" held in Tehran in 2007. The topics of some of the articles are: theoretical explanation of social capital; the role of humanities in the development of social capital; examining the impact of social capital on party governance; social capital and economic performance; religious values of Islam (Shi'ism) and social capital, examining the relationship between social capital and mental health; and social capital and economic development (the case of Iran).
