The book "Victim" is a novel written by Joyce Carol Oates, which was first published in 2015. Edenta Fry has been searching for her daughter for days—until a neighbor finds her wrapped in rope and in very bad shape. The fourteen-year-old girl, Sibla, was badly injured and had racial slurs written on her body. Sibla says several men—including at least one "white cop"—kidnapped, imprisoned, beat, and raped her. But before Edenta hides her daughter from the police and social workers, even before they leave the hospital, the story she tells seems to raise more questions than answers. There will be more. "Cibella" becomes a symbol of her oppressed community, a symbol of black distrust of the predominantly white police department.
