"The Fatal Eggs" is a novel written by Mikhail Bulgakov, first published in 1925. As the chaos of the years following the Russian Revolution of 1917 slowly subsides and the Soviet Union becomes a reality, a genius and eccentric zoologist named Persikoff discovers a ray that can miraculously affect the size of living organisms and their reproduction rate. At the same time, a mysterious plague destroys all the chickens in the Soviet Union. The government confiscates Persikoff's untested invention to revive the poultry industry, but a terrible mistake quickly leads to a disaster that could threaten the entire world.
