The book "The Way of Love" is a biography of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi written by Iknath Iswaran. The book was originally published in the United States in 1973. Several later expanded versions were released. Non-English editions have also been published in several languages. The story of Mahatma Gandhi's spiritual transformation In 1892, a 23-year-old, shy, quiet, short, and completely normal young man named Mohandas Gandhi, with a past full of failures, left India for South Africa. Ten years later, he was considered a saint by everyone, even his opponents, who led a hundred thousand people in one of the most thought-provoking experiences in history: the struggle of the Satyagraha, a war without violence. When he returned to India, he was no longer Mohandas Gandhi, but "Mahatma", a "great soul" whose freedom of his country from foreign rule was possible without firing a shot. Iknath Iswaran (author of the book), grew up in Gandhi's India. He was between twenty and thirty years old when he met Gandhi for the first time. His intention for this meeting was to find out the secret of his transformation, not the secret of Gandhi the politician, but the secret of "Gandhi, as a human being." Later, in the heat of his professional work as a writer and teacher, Iswaran practiced meditation to bring about the same spiritual transformation in his life. He first came to America to visit the Full Bright Institute and in 1960, he founded the Blue Mountain Meditation Center in Berkeley, California. Iswaran is currently regularly giving lectures on Gandhi, meditation, and spirituality in the world's major religions. The present book has a new section written by Timothy Flinders called "Satyagrahas in Action" and an introduction written by Michelle N. Nagler from the University of California at Berkeley is available to those interested.
