Patricia's novel is based on the ups and downs of immigrants' lives and tells the story of a black African who immigrates to Canada due to financial problems and hopes to enjoy a more prosperous life. The story is narrated by three main characters (father, daughter, and father's lover). Each of them, in a part of the book, shares their fears and hopes, worries and wishes with the reader. The characters are so real that the reader unconsciously identifies with them and this feature encourages him to continue reading the work. Immigration, personal, family, and professional identity, emotional relationships, and love are among the prominent themes of this work.
