Detta är historien om en flicka som tillsammans med familjen utvandrar från Iran till Indien för att familjefadern ska kunna vidareutbilda sig till läkare. Tillsammans med sin far åker hon sedan till olika rika och fattiga familjer och bekantar sig med olika människors vardagsproblem och nya verkligheter öppnar sig för henne. Författarinnans budskap är att människor är innerst inne likadana i känslor och handling och att man borde se olika kulturers gemensamma nämnare snarare än skillnaderna.
