The Kitáb-i-Aqdas was revealed in 1873. The present edition which has been published by the Universal House of Justice, is the first official publication of the Most Holy Book in the language of Revelation, and is thus of unique historical importance.
Contents: the present edition contains not only the text of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas but also other supplementary texts which are important for the reader's understanding: an introduction by the Universal House of Justice, a description of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas by Shoghi Effendi, some supplementary texts to the Kitáb-i-Aqdas revealed by Bahá'u'lláh (the Eighth Ishráq, the Obligatory Prayers, the Prayer for the Dead), Questions and Answers, A Synopsis and Codification of the Laws on the Text of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, Notes on the Text of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, as well as an index. The texts from the Pen of Bahá'u'lláh are in the original language, i. e. they are all in Arabic, except for the Eighth Ishráq. The other parts of the book are in Persian. The paragraph numbers of the English edition of 1992 are printed in the margin of the Arabic text of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas.
Form: Great care has been expended on the appearance of the book. The gold letters on the dark redish brown cover as well as the gilt edging give the book a very refined appearance. Its format is 175x215mm. The dark red background of the endpapers have been embellished with ornamental gold print. The paper is 90g antique beige. The book has 480 pages, four of which are ornamental pages in five-colour printing (four colours and gold). The text of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas is presented in beautiful calligraphy, hand-written by an expert calligrapher in Naskh script, and with a gold border around it. The figures in the margin are in grey.
