This novel tells the story of three women whose lives are unexpectedly connected after discovering a dangerous secret. The novel takes place in Sydney, Australia, where Cecilia is married and has a seemingly perfect life. Meanwhile, Tess Ilari is a woman who returns to Sydney with her son after realizing that her husband is in love with her cousin, who is her best friend. Tess' children and Cecilia's children are enrolled in the same school, where Tess' ex-boyfriend is a teacher. Rachel, the school's headmistress, is the third woman who suspects that Connor is the man responsible for the unsolved murder of her daughter, who has been with her for almost three decades.
