Gustav Mahler sits on the deck of a ship en route from New York to Europe. He is famous, the world's greatest musician, but his body aches, always has. While the cabin boy gently but resolutely cares for him, he thinks back to his last years, the summers in the mountains, and the death of his daughter Maria, whom he sometimes thinks he can still see. He thinks of Anna, the other daughter, who is currently sitting downstairs having breakfast, and of Alma, the love of his life, who is driving him crazy and whom he lost long ago. It is his final voyage.
"The Last Sentence" is the poignant portrait of an artist as a weary worker, confronted by the past in the form of crystal-clear moments of beauty and regret.
