Vice President-elect Kamala Harris' pledge speaks to us of "truths that need to be told." The daughter of an immigrant, she grew up in a community in Oakland, California.
His parents—a respected economist from Jamaica and an acclaimed cancer researcher from India—were known as activists in the civil rights movement when they were graduate students at Berkeley. Growing up, Harris never hid his passion for justice, and when he became a deputy district attorney right out of law school, he quickly established himself as one of the most innovative agents of change in American law enforcement. He quickly rose to become the elected district attorney of San Francisco, and then the top law enforcement officer for the state of California. Known for giving voice to the voiceless, he took over the foreclosures of major banks in the crisis and won a historic settlement for California's working families.
Regarding his personality, it should be said that he is neither "hard" nor "soft", but intelligent in the face of the events around him. Being smart means learning the truths that can make us better as a society and supporting these truths with all our might.
It has been this lucky star that has guided Harris to a transformational career as California attorney general, as a United States senator, and now as vice president-elect.
