Malatesta spent most of his adulthood in exile. He was in London for almost thirty years, when it was considered the "capital" of the capitalist world. He is an example of the cosmopolitan radicals who circulated in the world imperialism and brought an alternative form of modernism instead of modernizing the catnip guns of biblical modernism and the imperialist steel regimes based in the mines, slaughterhouses, and factories. Malatesta lived, organized, and fought in Egypt, the Balkans, Spain, Argentina, the United States, Cuba, Switzerland, and France. The most interesting recent works about anarchism and syndicalism before 1914 have focused on how to spread and accept the action plan of anarchist thought and culture in the global south, as well as on the interception of transnational networks of immigrant liberation societies in port cities and other parts of the world. Malatesta's life is a manifestation of the process that enabled anarchist and syndicalist movements to be more effective than the global left expected many times. The sociology of these networks produced generations of intellectuals such as Carlo Caffi Berro, Francesco Sava, Rio Merlino, and Luigi Fabri, who were ideological comrades and reflectors of his ideas, as well as several generations of self-taught workers and artisans. He became an industrialist, and in his free time from his other roles as an organizer and editor of the radical newspaper, he tried to separate himself from his class origins and go among the people, just like the Russian populists.
