During an ordinary walk in the forest with his dog Snowy, Tintin sees a plane landing with difficulty. As he approaches to help the pilots, they respond by shooting at him. Tintin wakes up in the hospital. During a visit by the two inspectors Dupond and Dupont, they learn from Tintin that the plane has been spotted at Eastdown, in Sussex.
Eager to understand why he was shot, Tintin immediately leaves for England. But he is chased by two men, and only Snowy's help saves his life. Tintin, however, ends up finding the wreckage of the plane, as well as a mysterious paper on which it is written "Eastdown Sussex Müller 3f.r. 24-1h"
