But that is not the case. The father takes up the fight, for his daughter, and against the mother, who thrives on his daughter's favoritism.
In Sørsida, the extended family is gathered at the cabin on a sunny summer day. A dilemma, so small and innocent, could have been solved in the simplest way, but has disastrous consequences when emotions are allowed to play out.

They do not know how the cat works, whether it can find food through the snow, whether it will freeze to death in the evening. The sympathy for the cat spreads to the spider, which has crept in. Then to the goldfish, then to the plant and to the stone in the garden. Over the course of the play, they have formed a new worldview.
