In The Cat, we meet two people who have lost touch with nature. It is winter and they see a cat in the garden. They do not know how the cat works, whether it can find food through the snow, whether it will freeze to death in the evening. The sympathy for the cat spreads to the spider, which has crept in. Then to the goldfish, then to the plant and to the stone in the garden. Over the course of the play, they have formed a new worldview.
