This collection of articles, published for the first time in 1965 by Éditions François Maspero, enjoyed exceptional success for a theoretical work: several tens of thousands of copies sold and numerous translations. As Étienne Balibar notes in his 1996 foreword: "In this book, there is one of the most original, the most eloquent, and also the most argued attempts [...] to give body and theoretical figure to the Marxism.”
