Cafe Central has always been the epitome of comfort and relaxation in my opinion. The tables were crowded, except for a few exceptions. The cream cakes and pastries that were arranged in the showcase attract one's attention. Neither the amount of dust in the air nor the shards of glass on the sidewalks bothered the customers of Khaan Cafe newspaper and me who were standing outside in the alley.
They were sitting inside the cafe under the warm and yellow light of lights, chatting with their companions, drinking coffee and milk, and reading newspapers, and the only thing that did not occur to them was bombing the cafe.
- From the text of the story-
The Secretary of Memory is the story of an Iranian student who is hired by a retired old man from Vienna to prepare the photos he took of the ruins of the city during the war for publication in a book. While walking the streets and comparing the photos with the current reality, he gradually gets melancholy and sometimes thinks that he is living in a time of war. The book is a description of the illness of a young student in his own words, which he wrote on the recommendation of the doctors of the mental hospital. Hamid Sadr, born in Tehran in 1325, left Iran in 1347 while his second book (Tales of Tired Pigeons, 1346) was receiving the attention of critics, and now he has been living in Vienna for many years and writing in German. 6 The Secretary of Memory (2005) is Sadr's second novel in German, and it has met with great success in Austria and won several awards, including the Bruno Kraisky Award.
