Mohammad Shahrour, born on April 11, 1938, in Qara and died on December 21, 2019, in Abu Dhabi, was a civil engineer and Islamic scholar from Syria. He was born in the al-Nabq region of Syria. He was the fifth child of a middle-class family and his father worked as a dyer. Although Muhammad's father was a religious man, he sent him to a new school of science instead of a religious school. Muhammad earned a diploma in Damascus and then went to the USSR on a government scholarship to study civil engineering. He graduated from Moscow State University in 1964. In the Soviet Union, Mohammad Shahrour got acquainted with the philosophy of Marxism and suffered a crisis of faith. However, in the end, he regained his religious faith, but it was no longer like traditional religion.
