This is the end of determinism. Heisenberg's uncertainty principle dashed the hope of all those who believed in the orderly world promised by Newtonian physics. According to determinists, if the laws governing matter could be revealed, it would be possible to reach the most ancient past and predict the most distant future. Mathematics is changing our world to the point that eventually, within the next ten or twenty years, we will no longer be able to understand what it really means to be human. We can split the atom, turn around and stare at the first light, and predict the end of the world with just a handful of equations, but something always remains vague, indeterminate, and inconclusive.
