In the introduction to this book, we read:
Wide-ranging social changes such as globalization, lifestyle changes, the growth of education, the formation of new official identities (especially among girls), and economic constraints have led to an increase in the age of marriage and the prevalence of the phenomenon of “permanent celibacy.” As a result, Iran will face a significant jump in the elderly population, especially single elderly women, between 1425 and 1430. This increase will occur at a faster rate than the global average, making the phenomenon of “elderly women’s loneliness” a major issue. This book is a documented and alarming study that shows that the population of single elderly women will increase by more than three and a half times by 1430 and, due to its widespread and complex consequences, will become a serious concern for policymakers and civil society; a phenomenon that grows in silence, but its voice will soon be heard.
