"Those Without Shadows" is a novel by Françoise Sagan (1935-2004), a French writer. Those Without Shadows is Sagan's third novel and was published in 1957. This novel has been one of the best-selling novels in France. The story of Bay Saigan takes place in Paris. The story focuses on the life of a group of artistic and intellectual Parisians. The author uses the third person point of view to narrate his story to give a clear picture of his characters. The audience becomes painfully aware of the loss and identitylessness of the characters, characters who have lost their individual identity and the purpose of their lives. Just as the characters are desperately drawn to have casual relationships with each other, an ugly veil of unhappiness gradually covers Paris. In a part of the book, we read: "That night, Bernard's tall body stood in his way, and Bernard's possessive hands threw themselves on his shoulders." For a while, Josie watched the headlights of the cars, passing through the flowers on the wallpaper. Everything was very quiet and peaceful. Maybe within two days, Josie could tell him that he should go back to his house. Maybe Josie was giving him two days of her life, two happy days. Maybe both of them had to pay a lot for those two days. Bernard must have stayed up many a long night, Josie thought, as she was doing, thinking of those big ugly flowers and watching the lights pass over them, and now it was Josie's turn. Even though he had followed the path of lies.
